Moving Meditation: Overcoming Overwhelming

“Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.””

Matthew 28:18-20 NIV

·       Overcoming overwhelming.  Change the definition of overwhelming so it loses its power.  The word to baptize from Matthew 28:19-20 can also be translated to overwhelm.  Choose to be overwhelmed by the power and love of God.

·       Sometimes that’s easier said than done!  Family needs, work commitments, family and friend relationships, appointments, volunteering, exercising, All the things.  Do not allow temporary circumstances to steal your joy.

Opening Prayer: Lord Jesus, we welcome the presence of your Holy Spirit with us, every breath and every movement, we offer as worship.  You are with us always, even when it’s uncomfortable.  Please forgive me for my doubt that you can carry my burdens and release me from worldly overwhelm.  I choose joy.  Amen.

Focus:  Choose to be overwhelmed by the power and love of God.

Breath prayer:  Exhale: chaos / doubt

                           Inhale: peace / strength

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Philippians 4:13 NIV

·       Sometimes we wake up with an intention that does not match the plan God has for the day.  Do you choose to be overwhelmed with the world, or focus on the overwhelming presence of God?

·       Sometimes we forget God is beyond our understanding.  His timing, not ours.  We cannot control things; but God has control, and has all along.

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Psalms 27:14 NIV

·       Wait.  Seriously, friends.  His Word says to wait.  But who has time for that, right?  We live life on a mission!  But the pace of our lives does not have to match the pace of our society.  Wait for the Lord.  Don’t grow weary.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Isaiah 40:29-31 NIV

·       So God will give us strength to do the things He has called us to do.  He is a God beyond our understanding.  He doesn’t have to explain anything to us.  We are simply called, as children of God, to follow where He leads us.  We are waiting for Him to tell us when to move.  Don’t try to micromanage God!  His timing, not ours.

“but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

Matthew 24:13 NIV

·       Stand firm.  Choose to endure.  And it’s probably not going to be comfortable.  Remember, God doesn’t follow our schedules.  But He gives us strength and asks us to obey.  Know God is with you and He requests us to…

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.””

Psalms 46:10 NIV

Closing Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for our ability to come together to experience Movement Worship and Breath all for your glory.  May…

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

(Numbers 6: 24-26)

May the blessings of this practice remain with you,

enriching your life and the lives of those you meet.

Amen
